I know it is an anxious experience to prepare yourself for so let me relieve you of your worries and break down the basics.
First things first…
During your initial visit, the doctor will go over
- Your previous medical history
- Current conditions
- Any noticeable pain or symptoms
- If you’ve had any injuries sustained from a car accident, sports injury, or other physically traumatic events
The doctor will perform a thorough examination on you, as well as take X-rays of your spine to determine exactly what course of treatment or technique that will be best fit for your body. When you return for your second appointment in the office, our Jacksonville chiropractor will explain to you what exactly is going on in your body and give you the best possible options to choose from when it comes to your treatment plan.
What does an adjustment do?
For your first adjustment it is important to familiarize yourself with common chiropractic care and know what to expect after an adjustment. There are many things that cause our spines to get “out-of-whack” or misaligned. These are joints that have gotten stuck or shifted out of its normal position, also known as a subluxation, which is the result of many different things such as bad posture, repetitive motions, athletic injuries, car accidents, etc. These subluxations can affect nerve communication between your brain and your body. This irritates nerves causing numerous problems with your overall health. When you receive an adjustment it will add motion to the joints that have become stuck, and drastically reduce the negative effect on your nervous system. Now that you understand how an adjustment works and how beneficial it is to your health, you will be able to better understand what is going on when you get your very first adjustment in-office.
Almost immediately after the first adjustment, most patients feel a whole lot better! Everyone’s body takes an adjustment very differently, but most people feel less pain, more relaxed and flexible after they leave our office. The people who notice a difference the most are individuals whose bodies have spent years in misalignment and imbalance structurally. The instant improvement and relief is amazing! We also have patients who say they feel an instant surge of energy throughout their body, this is because their nerves are finally working properly.
Your chiropractor will warn you that this relief IS NOT permanent. In more severe cases, patients will have to return for treatment before noticing improvement.
This is not uncommon that some patients may feel a bit “off” after their first adjustment. For the first time in a long time this is a big deal for their bodies to cope with and they have naturally gotten used to the incorrect postures. So, when it is adjusted to a better position, sensibly, it won’t feel too good for a small amount of time. Most common is soreness around the area where the subluxation is. This is normal because it is the particular area where the muscles have been pulling for a long time, so when they are moved it will cause discomfort. Some patients may feel the discomfort of an old injury because their body is still trying to heal but this is very rare and is only an indication of deep healing. If you do feel any soreness, or slight discomfort, it usually only lasts a few hours or overnight.
Many patients don’t feel much different after their first adjustment. This means that the energy flow in your body has been restored and it may still take up to a few days for you to feel any kind of outward effect. When you speak with your chiropractor after your adjustments, he or she should inform you that these treatments are a process and it is important to know that you won’t be completely healed after your first adjustment. Your doctor will guide you throughout your journey of chiropractic care and let you know how your body is responding to the treatments. Don’t ever be afraid to ask questions or get insight on anything you are unsure of so that you can effectively get the results that you need!

What our patients think:
“I just had my first baby and throughout my pregnancy I had the worst lower back pains, and my neck killed me because I could never get comfortable at night with my growing baby bump. Dr. Vesce gave me regular adjustments even in my last trimester which helped almost completely relieve the discomfort I was having. My delivery went amazing, the Doctor that delivered my son was in shock at how smoothly everything went. I tell my husband every day that I could have 5 more kids if all my pregnancies were that easy ha-ha.... I highly recommend Dr. Vesce, not only is he an awesome chiropractor he is such a down to earth, nice guy and he makes you feel very comfortable at his office. – K.D”
“I would highly recommend Jacksonville Beach Chiropractic. I was recently in a car accident and as a result I experienced intense pain which eventually led to extreme migraines. Though I had gone through physical therapy, seen an orthopedic specialist and a neurologist, my symptoms did not cease. Through adjustments I received at Jacksonville Beach Chiropractic, my migraines are now completely gone and I am pain free for the first time in 7 months! Dr. Vesce and his staff were always professional, friendly and I can honestly say I actually enjoy my doctor visits. Thanks Dr. Vesce for helping me to be pain free. -J. N”
“Dr. Vesce is thorough and actually listens. I've had my hip and lower back bothering me from my training for almost 2 years. After going to my family doctor and a specialist at Mayo Clinic with no solution, the chiropractor was kind of my last hope. After just a few visits, I've been feeling a ton better. I train in martial arts and have noticed my flexibility and my power in my kicks. Highly recommend Dr. Vesce and his staff!! -Unknown”
